C. WARREN A. DINSMORE OF SOUTH BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND EMILY L. GEER OF SAME PLACE. Letters Patent No. dated July 26 1870. IMPROVEMENT IN CATAMENIAL SACKS. The Schedulereferred. to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I W. nEN A. DINS ioRE of South Boston in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts have invented an Improved Catame vial Sack of which the following is a full clear and exact description reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cat amenial sack. Figure 2 is a vertical section through the center of the same. The object of my invention is to furnish a catamenial sack for the use of females during the monthly period which is so constructed that the menstrual discharges cannot escape therefrom when the position of the body is changed in lying or sitting down as has been liable to occur with articles of this description as heretofore made and My invention consists in a sack containing within it an other sack or pocket of a tapering form and provided with bands and straps for securing the same upon the body and with an opening at the lower end through which the discharges pass into the space between the inner and outer sacks from which they cannot escape when the position of the sack is changed in lying or sitting down and a desirable and useful article is thus obtained which will effectually prevent the clothes or person from becoming soiled. To enable others skilled in the art to understand and use my invention I will proceed. to describe the manner in which I have carried it out. In the said drawing A is a rubber sack or receptacle which is made of a tapering form and provided with two flaps a v to which are attached the straps c to the opposite ends of which are secured buckles d through which pass the straps e the upper ends of which are fastened to the waistband B and by means of these buckles dthe sack can be adjusted to fit persons of different forms. Within the sack A and secured to the upper edge thereof is another smaller rubber sack or pocket C which is made tapering or tunnelshaped and is provided at its lower end with an opening f through which the menstrual discharges pass into the space g between the inner and outer sacks and from this space the discharges cannot escape when the position of the body of the wearer is changed as in lying or sitting down as they will flow up on one side toward the point where the inner and outer sacks are united together and the liability of the clothes or person of the wearer becoming soiled ig thereby effectually prevented. h is a piece of sponge Attached to the upper edge of the sack which may be saturated with perfume if desired. I am aware that a double sack is not of itself new as it has been. used by introducing it into the vagina and pressing it agaihst the mouth of the womb an inconvenient if not an impracticable application of the sack. Claim. What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The within described catatnenial sack consistingof the outer sack A in combination with an inner sack C provided with an opening f and so arranged as to form a space g and combined with bands and straps for securing the same upon the person substantially as and for the purpose described. Witness my hand this 11th day of June A.D. 1870. WARREN A. DINSMORE. Witnesses P. E. ThESCHEMACHER W. J. CAMBRIDGls..
