Poker is the most popular card game in the world, though it takes on many different forms. The basic principles revolve around 'bluffing' to deceive opponents and using cards with domino combinations or rank. Many believe that the Chinese invented a game similar to poker before 969 AD, as The Emperor Mu-tsung reportedly played 'domino cards' on new years eve with his wife. During the 12th and 13th centuries, Egyptians used a form of playing cards. 'Primero', a Spanish game of the 16th century, involved three cards dealt to each player. The French 'Poque' and German 'Pochen' were incarnations of 'Primero' and were very popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. French colonials brought the game to Canada, and when a ground of French-Canadian settlers founded New Orleans, it spread down into the states. The European influence of poker came to a halt in 1875, when the joker was introduced as a wild card. Today three versions of poker dominate: 5 Card Draw, 7 Card Stud, and Texas Hold'em.
